At Christmas, it is easy to focus on the gifts we buy, and the effort we put into choosing them. Creating the list, slicing the wrapping paper, finding the edge of the Sellotape… Remembering at the last minute that we haven’t bought anything for Great Aunt Roberta. Dashing to the shop for a desperate squint at the emptying shelves, but managing to come away with something for her. And all of that matters, of course it does. Giving feels good.

But there are other kinds of gifts we can bring. Love. Peace. Joy. Patience. Kindness.

These are the gifts that don’t need wrapping. They don’t need batteries or receipts. They don’t actually cost a thing, but they can change the shape of a day.

This Christmas, take a minute to notice the gifts others bring. A kind word. A bit of patience. Someone listening properly. A shared laugh when things feel heavy.

Take a minute to appreciate yourself too. The effort you make. The care you show. The quiet ways you keep going.

We are all facing our own daily challenges, even if they’re not obvious. Before reacting, pause and consider what someone else might be carrying. Then consider your own challenges, and how you would hope others might help you face them.

And then, where you can, do the same for others. Be patient. Offer joy. Spread love. Create peace.

Be kind, above all. It is a gift that never goes out of season.
