The Purple Sunflower Project was launched in the Community of Maesteg in the Welsh Valleys. The project will deliver mental health workshops and training that will benefit the people of Maesteg and its surrounding areas.
The Purple Sunflower Project has been put together by The Ajuda Foundation and its volunteers. The project is mainly funded by money raised from The Trudy Williams Memorial fund.
Trudy Williams
The Trudy Williams Memorial fund was set up after our friend and colleague, Trudy, tragically lost her life in a car accident on the 10th of August 2022. Trudy was born and raised in Maesteg and was a big advocate for helping others and promoting positive mental health. Here is Trudy pictured below.
This legacy project will not only benefit the people of Maesteg, but with more funds, we can also help raise awareness of mental health topics through our online webinars and harder to reach communities throughout the Welsh Valleys.
Here are a few photos of a Level 1 Mental Health First Aid workshop taking place at Llangynwyd Village Hall in Maesteg, showing we are committed to the cause. 20 people took part and received a QNUK qualification. Here are photos of the workshop recently undertaken.
We want to ensure that Trudy’s name is honored for many years to come in our work here at The Ajuda Foundation.
We also have The Trudy Williams special recognition award held at the annual Mental Health and Wellbeing Wales Awards. Trudy was so passionate about Mental Health; she would go out of her way to ensure people were ok.
Trudy was a keen runner and every year she would take part in races to raise money for the mental health charity Mind. People would often ring our office asking for help and advice with their Mental Health, Trudy would quickly go through her list of advice and support contacts and give them details of the right person or organisation to contact. She would then come off the telephone and cry because
she wondered if they would be ok.
This is just one example of how much she cared about people. Trudy genuinely cared about everyone she met, and we truly believe that she made us all better people just by being herself.
