This year, we introduced a new category into the Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards – Wellbeing Champion of the Year.

Wellbeing champions play a vital role in creating a healthy, supportive workplace culture. They provide opportunities for open, honest conversations about mental health in the workplace, helping to break down stigma and normalise these types of discussions. By making wellbeing visible and approachable, champions remind colleagues that mental health is just as real and important as physical health, encouraging understanding, compassion, and early support. This makes sure that mental health challenges and illnesses are recognised and managed effectively. Having wellbeing champions in the workplace means everyone knows there are people to talk to – people who know how to handle these sorts of conversations, and help employees manage their wellbeing effectively.

To sum up, here’s why you should consider creating Wellbeing Champions in your organisation:

  • They normalise mental health conversations – Wellbeing Champions help make discussions about mental health an everyday occurrence, reducing stigma and fear.
  • They provide early support & intervention – They provide colleagues with a safe point of contact, helping to address issues before they escalate.

  • Wellbeing champions promote a positive workplace wellbeing culture – Champions encourage openness, empathy, and understanding, creating a supportive environment for everyone.

  • They make wellbeing visible – They act as a reminder that mental health matters, helping embed wellbeing into daily organisational life.

  • Wellbeing champions empower colleagues – They encourage self-care, awareness, and resilience, giving people the tools to manage their own mental health effectively.

So if you don’t have wellbeing champions in your organisation, it might be time to consider training some up! Talk to Bobbie about our Wellbeing Champions course… and you never know, it could be one of your Wellbeing Champions winning at next year’s awards!
